Mets Trades through the years: Who Won?
OK. I tried combining years in the Tuesday post and it really did get too big. At this point I'll go back posting one year at a time. Look for new posts every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 10:00 a.m. starting next week until we get to 1962!
November 2000 through October 2001
(2) New York Mets traded Javier Ochoa to the Cleveland Indians for Tom Martin (Jan 11, 2001)
Notes: After this series of trades in the year following their World Series appearance, it is no wonder they didn’t get back there in 15 years. These trades ranged from awful (Pratt for Bennett) to meh (most of the rest of them). Trading away Wendell hurt. I loved the character of the guy, but he was pretty much done by that point.
I didn't give Dennis Cook enough credit for his 3 and a half years in NY. He was 24-13 being used mostly as a LOOGY.
Interesting note about the Mark Leiter trade in March to the Rockies. I would have to do more extensive research, but I cannot think of another player they signed as a free agent that they traded before the season. Leiter signed in January and lasted for only two months with the organization, never getting the chance to pitch with his brother Al with the Mets. He also has one of the all time best Baseball-Reference pictures. (discounting John Maine - who comes up with these, and are they going to have them for life??? )
