Mets Trades through the years:  Who Won?

Moving on back from the World Series year of 2000, 1998 actually helped set up the next two years very well.

November 1997 thru October 1998

 (1)  New York Mets traded Alex Ochoa to the Minnesota Twins for Rich Becker  (Dec 12, 1997)

 (2)  New York Mets traded Fletcher Bates and Scott Comer to the Florida Marlins for DennisCook  (Dec 18, 1997)

Notes:   Obviously The best two of the fifteen trades in 1998 were the deals with the Marlins.   The Piazza trade is one of the top five in Mets history.    The Mets didn't totally fleece the Marlins, as both Burnett and Wilson had decent careers after the trade, but at the time, the Mets made out very well with Milliard .. er Leiter and Piazza.

Trade 10 got them their first look at their 2022 first base coach.   Let’s hope he has more success as a coach than he did as a player.

The Ochoa-Becker deal was a loser for the Mets.  Becker did nothing while Ochoa went on to be a useful player for several years.
